Here is my problem:
I found a font created by myself. This font has 8 variations and can be used in each of them. Each variation has the same name except a number after the word.
I created a symbol out of it. The symbol is created by overlapping 4 separate layers. Each layer has a different texture. If you open the symbol and switch to 'View' then you will see that all 4 layers are visible at the same time. The layers are:
- Layer 1 (white)
- Layer 2 (black)
- Layer 3 (blue)
- Layer 4 (yellow)
In my symbol the variations are:
1-blue
2-black
3-yellow
4-white
Is there any way to include the variations in the symbol?
I was thinking that I could make a button for each variation and set the button to do nothing but when the icon is pressed then the next icon is shown. Is there any way to do this?
A:
In Illustrator, select the symbol layer that has all your text layers and simply click on the 'Text' button on the tool bar. This will create an Adobe Character Set file and put the symbols in one name. After you are done with editing the text, you can import this file to Illustrator CS6 and by clicking on the text button in the tool bar you will be able to change the text.
You can find a guide on how to do it here.
Also, you can do it in Photoshop as well.
